Rock Climbing Merit Badge at Adventure Rock and Devils Lake State Park

We couldn’t ask for better fall weather for camping and climbing the first weekend of October. Troop 61 participated in the Rock Climbing Merit Badge for our second merit badge this year. To start, the Troop went to Adventure Rock climbing gym in Milwaukee to learn all the basics of repelling, climbing, and belaying. We climbed for about five hours until we felt ready for the big feat ahead: climbing at Devil’s Lake State Park. After two days camping at Devil’s Lake, the Troop met with expert guides who would show us climbing routes and continue teaching us the necessary skills. We hiked up to the base of the routes, where we would eventually stay for about six hours. During that time, everybody climbed, ate, had fun, and repelled. After an exhausting climbing session, we decided to head back down and rest. Thank you to Adventure Rock and Devils Lake Climbing Guides for helping us achieve our Rock Climbing Merit Badge. Also, thank you to all the adult volunteers who made our weekend a success.
