Summer Camps at Jag Lake 2024

Summer Camp of 2024 is here! After months of planning, the boys were ready to head out and have fun. On day one, the Troop packed the trailer and headed to Jag Lake. There they set up their patrol activity areas, which include the waterfront where boys can swim and play in the water, the activity tent where we play chess, checkers, and box hockey, and finally the crafts tent where first years learn the skills they need for merit badges and where boys can build various leather crafts.

On day two, Scouts started their merit badges, which are taught by adult leaders. This year’s merit badges included Swimming, Camping, Wilderness Survival, Small Boat Sailing, Space Exploration, and Fishing. After a morning of merit badge activity, the boys let off some of their energy by playing King of the Raft in the lake. After hours of swimming and having fun, the Troop then built a campfire. Following the exciting first day, the boys had a good night’s sleep. Throughout the third day, the boys continued to have fun doing merit badges and going fishing with Mr. Stahn.

The highlight of day four would include going to Minocqua for the Min-Aqua Bats Water Ski Show. Another highlight of the day was when the boys went on a canoe trip. During the canoe trip, the scouts battled with each other and splashed water while trying to tip each other over. The next day the Troop continued completing their merit badges, fishing with Mr. Stahn, and also tubing on Jag Lake. The boys in the Wilderness Survival merit badge worked diligently on their survival shelters where they would sleep the next night.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. The boys finished merit badges and packed for the Troop’s departure the next day. Also, Mr. Hagen hosted the closing of the campfire, where boys performed skits, sang songs, and told both scary and funny stories. The boys went to sleep knowing that they had a fun and action-packed week.  I think everyone could agree that Troop 61’s 2024 summer camp was a success!
