Troop 61 volunteered at the Oak Hill Cemetery in our annual cemetery cleanup to honor Civil War soldiers buried there. The two Civil War veterans buried at Oak Hill Cemetery are Johann Bahler and Dr. Levi Halsted. The Troop decided the best way to help was to weed and rebuild a dilapidated fence. Mr. Miller and his brother, Mr. Miller, helped the scouts remove parts of the fence that were in disrepair and help put up new sections. Scouts learned how to put together the fence by drilling through the wood of the post and helping tighten screws with nuts and bolts. Also, some boys took out weeds around the cemetery or cut the grass. Troop 61 will continue to help maintain Oak Hill Cemetery in the future so we can help preserve the legacy of our Civil War soldiers.
